BCG (Bright China Group) is such an enterprise with great sense of social responsibilities. It has being always embodied its persistent commonweal spirit in social enterprise development. BCG has established various institutions, through the development of which we can see clearly how BCG is concerned about social problems and vulnerable groups. Look at BCSI(Bright China Service Industry). Since its establishment, it has provided different expertise trainings and employment opportunities for laid-off workers and lower classes to ensure their ability, dignity and personal development. And BCMI(Bright China Management Institute), namely DA (Perter F. Drucker Academy), has offered much advanced management knowledge and tools for enormous executives in China to help them improve themselves with capability, strong social responsibilities and effective management. And BCF (Bright China Foundation) shows us how BCG, as an enterprise, helps vulnerable groups and takes on social responsibilities in an organized and systematic way in a large scale. In a word, where there is need, we will be there. We will fully put our strength and potential into action to set new development and implement innovation actively.
At present, BCG’s newly set goal is to be a social enterprise. It seems to be an enterprise. However, it is kind of idea and spirit. Although Peter Drucker, Father of Modern Management, did not present the term of “Social Enterprise”, he had earlier recognized the necessity of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and profitable operation of NGOs. In fact, “Social Entrepreneurship” is just an extension of his theory. Social enterprises should not only focus on profits, but also help companies take on social responsibilities, serve vulnerable groups, create development opportunities, change way of lives to achieve the goal of NGOs in an effective and profitable way. This fully keeps in line with what BCG used to do as the combination of profitable and non-profitable way of operation. This is an organic transition, which by no means is a stop to what it is doing now but reorganization of current resources to provide better services for vulnerable groups. It is an indispensable choice of social entrepreneurship. This will undoubtedly keep us constantly refreshed to help social entrepreneurs for new businesses with BCG’s trainings and Drucker’s management theory.
As for profitable units in BCG, they will take most of their advantages to create rich resources and ensure an integration of existing resources for a constant development of social enterprise, thus leading to a new model. Soon we are to start a social enterprise program named “MUST” (Make U Start Train, a platform for common development of social entrepreneurs) in HK. We have prepared a 400-square-meter office fully equipped with training facilities. There are mainly 3 services as follows:① A central system of administration, finance and public relations. There is a package and non-stop service for entrepreneurs to fully perform themselves; ②Specific commercial, consultancy and advisory services for related business of social enterprises. As a resource center, it will offer relevant materials, periodicals and various data with intellectual property rights for social entrepreneurs to learn from with a short-cut; ③Systematic trainings for social entrepreneurs to better understand and apply training knowledge and Drucker’s theory, thus inspiring their confidence in starting a business. What’s more, there will be numerous open lectures, like the monthly “Energy Meeting”, with the purpose to cultivate social entrepreneurs' honesty and passion for social enterprises and help them share knowledge and experience to accelerate a further development of social enterprise. Why is it called " Make U Start Train "? As a leading role, BCG aims to provide equal development opportunities for other enterprises with same ideas so that they can freely and smoothly develop themselves as they prefer. We are hoping of helping 10 to 15 social enterprises do businesses in our center, ensuring 100 ones enjoy our various resources like services, data and trainings.
In May this year, we are to officially start social enterprise, which will be a milestone to BCG. Besides “Make U Start Train” in HK, we are also going to start business in mainland China, and to set up social enterprises one by one to tackle more major social problems like rural development. Now, I am still studying, researching, and setting the direction for development. It is a hope that in the near future, BCG can create new model by active and effective innovations, help more people build their beautiful future through social enterprises and make their dreams come true, thus realizing a functional society with love and potential.
